I know its been awhile, I have been a very bad blogger...sorry...I did enjoy the holidays with my family...it was pretty low key and actually not very stressful. We ate like kings and enjoyed being together. I think I am finally getting back into the swing of things. I am gonna try to be a better blogger. Maybe 2012 will be a better year! lol

And so I want to share with you a little table quilt I just finished today! I saw this quilt somewhere and knew I had to repeat it, so I sharpened my think tang and got to work.... For the first time I used sequins and beads to add that "bling" to my runner. And so here you have it a few photo's! I'll be back soon. Hope you do to!

So on a recent trip through Archivers I found this fabulous stamp by Northwoods....I thought it was just so cute! And then while surfing online at one of my favorite shops , My Favorite things , I found this uber cute fence die.....and when the two colide you get this card! Love it!!! May have to keep this one for awhile...I really like it! hehe

Here are a few things I have made over the past couple of weeks I have more but didn't take photo's....the photo of the Hot Air Balloon is a soar spot photo...you see we had the Spirit of Boise Balloon Festival about a week ago..the paper said it would do the night glow after sun down, so we headed out with plenty of daylight to spare and when we got there this was the only balloon left , as they did the show early and the other balloonist was packing up....I was so upset and then to boot some guy ran across my shot! Bad night indeed. Oh well...we then piled the kids in the car and headed to Rockies Diner and sucked down some fabulous Shakes.

The photo uptop of my blog is one that we took on our little "staycation" a few weeks ago....we headed out to Lowman and then onto Stanley, Ketchum and Sun Valley Idaho...well we saw this little carve out along the road and thought what a gorgeous picture that would make! And I think so! What do you think? Those are the Grand Jean Mountains. Total Beautiful Idaho! Enjoy.

What a great Celebration...To honor our Mothers for doing what they do best...Being Mom! I love mine...she is adorable! We live on opposite ends of the US But we talk by phone alot....good thing they made long distance unlimited! And we see each other...we fly her out here....we are trying to get her to move out here...but so far she remains back in Jersey.....sigh.......one day!!! Anyway onto this post! Cards!!! I made her and my mother in law Mothers day cards....I saw this stamp at Craft Warehouse and knew exactly what I was going to do with it! Colored with Copics and Accented with Stickles. I am out of practice with my copics.....I have been quilting lately and need to get back to coloring as well! Anyway Enjoy!

I am a bad blogger, but first let me explain.....I was busy Lobbying for the rights of the Developmentally Delayed ... our legislative session just let out and so now I am free again. So they decided to take an ax to the programs for the disabled but there were to many of us fighting for them and boy did we put up a fight....they did rethink alot of the cuts but in the end they did more harm then good. They took away all the dental benefits for the Disabled. SIGH......how could they??? Okay okay so now that you know what has consumed me I want to show you what I have been working on this weekend!!! Okay So there is a cybercrop going on until tonight midnight at my site Chattyscrappers.net and here is what I have done so far:

Oh I can't tell you how nice it has been to get sewing again! Recently I have been having fun researching Civil War Quilts and so my bff , sister and I and the girls all loaded up in the car a couple of saturdays ago and went Quilt Shop hopping. Well at one of the shops we found this very cute table runner and it was using Charm packs. Well the sign said, buy a charm pack and get the pattern for free! We put down our $9 plus tax and got our free pattern and away we went. I purchased some Civil War Replica fabrics ....of course!~ Anyway the girls all came over last night and we started our tops....today I finished mine! I still have to back it and quilt & Bind but I will probably do that tomorrow! Would today but I have to go out to the shop and its about to storm and i am a big Chicken! LOL So for now here is the top....the picture , well its from my cell phone.....To lazy to grab the Rebel....

Can't believe its already 2011!!! Seems so foreign that boogied in the 80's had kids in the 90's and here we are.....in the 2000's!!!! Crazy! We had an awesome Christmas and a great New Year! I hope that you and your loved ones had great celebrations as well and was joined by family!

One of my "things" , I will call it that cuz I never keep "resolutions" is to become a better blogger! Since I want to take more time scrapping and less time shopping for supplies this should be easy.....we'll see!! If I am making more projects then guess I'll have more stuff to post! Black and White Cookie Recipe!

Oh yes, these are my #1 All time favorite cookies....I used to walk to the corner store for bread either with my sister or one of my cousins and we would always purchase these!!! I loved love loved the white part.....so now living where I do you can't find them in this part of the country so I went on the search for a recipe....and THIS IS IT.....EXACTLY like I remember!!!! So I thought I would share it with you , you cookie lovers!!!! If you do make them, come on back and let me know how you liked them!!!!! ENJOY!

Black & White Cookies
COOKIES
4 cups Cake Flour (I used the softasilk kind)
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
16 tblsp (2sticks) unsalted butter, soft
1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp Vanilla extract
½ tsp lemon extract
1 cup whole milk

ICINGS
¼ cup light corn syrup
1/3 cup water
5 cups confectioners sugar
½ tsp vanilla extract
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate …Melted
2 – 4 tsp water

The cookies: Preheat oven to 350 degrees , make sure racks are in the middle.
line cookie sheets with parchment paper.

Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together in a medium bowl.
In a LARGE bowl beat the butter and sugar with an electric mixer on med until light and fluffy…about 3 to 6 minutes. Beat in the eggs, vanilla and lemon extract until combined….oh about 30 seconds, be sure to scrap down the bowl and beaters if they need be.
Reduce the speed of the mixer to low and beat in 1/3 of the flour mixture by half of the milk. repeat with the half of the remaining flower mixture and the rest of the milk…then the rest of the flour mix……until combined.
Scoop about ¼ cup mounds of batter on to the baking sheets….be sure to space them about 2 inches apart. Use the back of a spoon or your fingers , dipped in water to smooth out the top of the cookies. Bake until edges are a light golden brown color. I would say about 15 minutes , rotating the sheets about ½ through baking. Remove from oven and cool on the cookie sheets for about 10minutes before putting them on a wire rack to cool for about 1 hour……repeat this with the other cookies.

Okay now onto the icing. bring the corn syrup and water to a boil in a saucepan over med/high heat…..remove the pan and whisk in the confections sugar and vanilla until you have a smooth consistency…..Measure out half of the icing into another bowl and wisk in the melted chocolate and 2 to 4 tsps of water as needed until it is smooth as well.
Now place two large wire racks over wax paper (cuz this will make your counter messy!!!) Spread about 2 tblsp worth of chocolate icing on ½ of the cookie with one of those small flat spatulas….put it back on the rack. …it will set up ( about 15 minutes or so) I do all of my chocolate at this time….then start back with cookie number one and put the white icing on the other half doing the same by putting it back on the racks to dry…..let them all sit to harden, I would say about 1 hour ….then serve and enjoy….my absolute favorite cookie!!!! Enjoy!

What an UGLY term......People use it everyday.....this shirt is "retarded", one friend to another...."Your so retarded" Well recently on Facebook a friends son used this term to describe people that make dumb decisions....the topic was how about how some people take advantage of others and he said and I quote , "Seeing how retarded some people are just reminds you of your place in society." WOW that truely stabbed me right in the heart......So before you read my response, truely evaluate your slang and change it if you use this term..................Everytime you use it Who your referring to are people that were BORN with disabilities...they didn't ask to be this way....but they are....they are loving , wonderful beings that deserve the utmost respect from us....the ones that should be seeing them as humans...not second class, not as stupid, but as our sisters and brothers that stand right beside us.......here was my response. Please if you would like to snag this and post it on your blog, feel free......we can change this one person at a time.....

At the risk of being deleted as a friend...I can't stay silent. I am sure you didn't mean it at all the way I took it.....But you used the word "retarded" to describe some people. Well I take great offense to that. My daughters ,... both biologically mine and my husbands , and they are Intellectually Challenged, the former term was Retarded. And even tho it has become a slang term to define people that don't things accordingly , what your essentially describing that people like my daughters have no place in society because they are stupid and can't make decisions for themselves....you are degrading them....they are lovely young ladies that deserve far more respect then to be described as second class citizens. What I would suggest in the future for you...being as bright as you are , is to do what your father says, enroll in your classes but be EDUCATED on the politeness of others less fortunate that will never have the opportunity that you have to attend college. Go spread the word that the word "retarded" is NOT acceptable to describe anyone in anyway....even if it is general population making bad decisions. Those people you can lovingly refer to as "irresponsible" that would be the best description. Retarded is a word that should not be used ....it is very degrading. I pray you never have to endure the anguish my husband and I go through for our daughters on a day to day basis because people are not educated in dealing with Intellectually challenged people......I have vowed as long as I have breath in me that I would not stand for the injustice society reeks on them....and so I will educate you on this terrible word. Thank you.

Wow I guess you can say I have taken a bit of a sabatical! Not intentionally , guess I had lost my mojo and had to find where I put it!!! LOL!!! Okay so my nephew has the CUTEST little daughter and I made her this card! First I have to say I love MFT's little girly stamps...they are just way to cute and looking at my stash of them, I would say I am well on my way to owning all of them! Okay so the first time I saw this stamp I fell in love.....it is so cool!! Being from where we are I thought how fitting! Well I looked at the price and really had to think about it! Soooooo, last week in the sunday paper this particular scrapbook store had a coupon for $5 off!! I knew exactly what I wanted!!!! And so here it is....okay so for this technique I used my sponge dauber to make the background....it started out as white cardstock and I used the dauber with 4 different inks to cover it and make it look like the dusk sky. Don't you just love it? Okay off to make some more stuff!

So I decided to make my Mom a Mothers day card this year that would be frilly. I found this really cute stamp at Craft Warehouse and just knew I had to have it!! Plus it was on sale for 30% off! What a deal! Used my Spellbinders to make the frame and of course colored in with copics. I have found that Martha Stewarts Glue pen RAWKS for doing detail work with glitter...which you will see on both cards.

Oh Hero Arts just keeps putting out such DARLING stamps!!! These girls are just so cute!!! Had to have those too AND I had a 30% off coupon at Archivers! On this I just used copic markers to color the images in... plain ole white cardstock...Martha Stewart Glue pen , Prism glitter embossed with cuttlebug folder of dots and those cupcake stamps were from my friend Sandy!~ Thanks gal!

I just love these little Artist Trading Cards. And Thanks to Hero Arts I have some REALLY cute stamps to play with....so I did....Using Tuxedo Black ink and my Copic markers I colored in the images and the papers...well would you believe they are about 6 years old? AND they came from my stash!! I love when I use up what I have!!! Anyway, here you have it! Enjoy!

Okay so I love owning stampsets, but the question is how do you store them because those plastic covers they come in always tear....well for my larger stampsets such as Hero and such I use a D-Ring binder, those huge ones along with CD sleeves I picked up at Staples office supply....2 per sheet, don't mistake it with the 4 per sleeve or they won't fit. I did have to cut down the cardboard packinging it came with to fit...just cut a little off the top and bottom. I got the idea from Jennifer McGuire....now the small stampsets I did all on my own!! WOW! Anyhoo, its just those baseball card holders (business cards too) in a regular 3 ring binder. Okay so there you have it! Enjoy!

What have I been doing?

Well sometimes you need to have more then one hobby in order to NOT suffer from burnout. My other hobby besides sewing/quilting has been making Beaded Ornament covers. The first time I saw one I thought they looked like little Mini chandeliers! I knew I had to do them...and let me tell you they look hard, but they are Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeezy! So here you have 6 of them.....you'll notice I just HAD to make a blue and orange to represent Boise's beloved BSU Broncos! Anyhoo! There ya have it!

I just love them, always have!!! In all their yumminess!!! Back in 1998 my mother turned 60! It had been over 20 years since me and my siblings had been together for no other reason then life and we all lived in different states! But not for this special event.....so I finally got around to it....I took the Black and White Challenge over at Chattyscrappers.net and remembered this photo I took of my Mom that night....its my favorite of her....she was so so happy! In March she will be turning 72! I think we need to plan another party! Woot!

Glitter tutorial

Alot of people like the look of glitter but hate the mess, well I have a little tutorial to share with you on how I get my products to look Premade (from the factory!) It is No SECRET that I am a FAN of glitter!!! If I could sprinkle it on my food I would ! LOL!!! Anyhoo I can tell you this Martha Stewart puts out FABULOUS glitter and her MS Glitter Glue is great. It really holds the glitter AND you don't have that flaking you get with other glues.....so with no more waiting here is my tutorial on how to apply glitter to chipboard!!! Enjoy and have a glittery day!

Supplies: Martha Stewart Glitter, Glitter glue, Chipboard and a sheet of paper folded in half with a SHARP crease...open

Glue your chipboard piece

Sprinkle with glitter
Cover the entire piece of Chipboard

Carefully pick up the chipboard piece and tap off excess

Set piece aside to dry, before doing so I usually also press the entire piece with the bottom of glue bottle to secure glitter into place and tap again

Next Take up both sides of paper to slide the glitter into the fold

Pour the glitter back into the bottle

Beautiful looking Glitter letter!

Use your dried glitter chipboard on your layout or project! Enjoy!

Here is my first. I just bought the Reindeer and Merry Christmas banner off of Craigslist for only $1 eacy! What a bargin! So I got home and started it right away....I love it! I had bought this paper a lllllllloooooooonnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggg time ago at a scrapbooking expo yardsale type of place. When I was picking it out I knew it had to have potential so I got it and did what I usually do, stored it! The other day I was looking at my paper and decided to pull it out! So glad I did, I love the results. Did any of you watch Jay Leno last night with President Obama? Well my husband and I decided we would be sure to watch this program....we usually watch it anyway but definitely last night. Well during the 10pm news the two Anchors mentioned a "blooper" that the President had.....and told us......I was DEVASTATED that Our President would say something so insensitive. During the last few minutes of the interview Leno says okay lets talk personal stuff (they had been talking about the economy and the AIG bonuses etc...). Well they were saying how he is putting up Bball hoops using the Tennis courts and then Leno mentioned the bowling alley and Obama said he is getting better at it and bowled a 129 ....so Jay was cracking his jokes and the audience was laughing and then Obama said "I look like I'm in Special Olympics" MY HEART JUST SANK!!!!! I could not believe that he would make such a derogatory statement about an already discriminated population! In fact it cut so deep I didn't not sleep well.

You see, as you may have read in previous posts the World Special Olympics Winter Games were held here in Feb 2009 and WHAT AN EVENT!!! Please read older posts from Feb..... It was so encouraging and what we all have been trying to accomplish with the general Population was well recieved and educated MANY people that really don't have any knowledge about Special needs individuals. They struggle everyday just to TRY to fit in to society. They are made fun of, rediculed and shunned by their peers. When in fact they see the world in PERFECT glasses.....I myself have two daughters (biologically ours) that are intellectually challenged and I tell you since Special Olympics came to our town there has been so much more tolerance and caring and love to people with disablilities. Basically this one event EDUCATED the citizens and what a difference it has made. And what Mr. Obama did was he just STRIPPED all of that away. My heart was so heavy last night......Had someone come up and made any kind of racial slur in the slightest there would have been headlines from coast to coast....but no, nothing in our local newspapers....Of course one of his "aides" apologized for him, which is NOT okay, he needs to come on tv and make amends and apologized for his slur.

I guess you all have your opinions and think that maybe I am coming on to strong, but until you have walked a mile in my shoes, and watch the way the general population REALLY treats Intellectually Challenged People, HUMAN BEINGS, you really don't know what it truely is like .....When I watched my kids, especially in Jr. High, struggle for acceptance but was made fun of, called names , Especially the "R" word, my heart just crumbled.

So I have a Plee Mr. President, Make this right, Don't just let your aide issue a corrective statement.....Do what is right and Publiclly Apologize on Camera from your own words and your own mouth.....afterall it was your own words and mouth that got you into this predicatment. I ask this on behalf of our two daughters.....

I have seen all the loving photo's of you with your daughters and how wonderful it is to see young ladies in the White house! I think they are adorable and I love that you and Michelle preserve thier innocence and instill good work ethics in them, but now you must take one more step, Educate them on Special needs People...it could be the most valuable lesson. My husband and I were just like you and Michelle with our girls and only wanted the best for them. so Please Start Educating your daughters and people about this.....Respectfully , Tilda

2009 WORLD SPECIAL OLYMPICS!!!!!

Right here in Boise! That's right! And what a Beautiful Ceremony! I have copied a pasted an earlier post I made on my scrappy site and wanted to share it here on my blog!!! Go BE ACTIVE!!!! MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!!!!!

What an evening! I can't express the emotions that I was feeling as I was there.....You see both of our daughters (they are biological) are Intellectually Challenged. And most of the time people stare at them trying to figure them out and we are used to it, but I also have to say most people are pretty kind and don't rush them, then there are the few...oye. Anyhoo, a little history of Special Olympics......

It was founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver (JFK's Sister). She hosted a Free summer camp at her home and a friend had called her stressed because she had a Special needs child and there wasn't any summer camp that would allow her to come. Eunice welcomed her in and from that point Special Olympics was born. The first games took place 9 days after her brother Robert was assassinated with only 100 spectators and 1000 particpants from just the US and Canada. And it just rolled on from there! Now , there were about 2000 participants from MANY different Countries World Wide and this is just the Winter olympics, there are many more participates in teh Summer games as well!! You have to understand the magnitude.....these games are the best of the best of Special needs....there are MILLIONS of participates This is a LARGE scale of people with many different needs. There were over 100 countries that represent the Special Olympics.....You also have to remember that in Many countries People with special needs are often Ostersized by their countries and are institutionalized in some of the most horific conditions. What Special olympics has done is LIFT those Disgraces and those preconcieved notions that these people are a lesser person...when in fact they are the opposite...the are VERY ABLE. We from the general population have ALOT we can learn from them.....they are Non Judgemental, caring, sweet, loving, athletic, intelligent and just plain wonderful! The 2009 World Winter Games are the largest international sporting and humanitarian event of the year, with more than 2,000 athletes from almost 100 countries, including Afghanistan, Cuba, New Zealand, Malaysia, China, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Iran and even Jamaica competing in seven winter sports from 7-13 February. For the first time athletes from Somalia, Comoro Islands and Djibouti are competing in a Special Olympics World Games.

New York Parties from the 60's-70's...

They are the best. And if you were someone you were at those parties!!! They got together for anything they could claim party worthy! LOL!! If you have never experienced one of those parties, you really missed out....it was bigger then any SuperBowl of today!!!!!

Remember the ugly kit I had to use up well this is the almost last of it and I must say I actually ended up liking it....so you see! you just have to try it first!!!!

So this layout of my Nona (my maternal Grandmother) is from the 60's....it is in the basement of our home in New York. Back then any occassion they could have a party they did. And I am here to tell you it was always first class. I am talking those fancy plastic cups that now I see on alot of scrapping paper that is retro! The punch bowls, trays and trays of homemade cooking combined with deli trays. All the girls and ladies were dressed up with dresses, hose and heels and definitely a new do from the "beauty parlor" as it was called back then....and the men, oh suits of course! all the furniture was against the walls , extra folding chairs brought in, banquet tables against the walls , a band in the corner, which usually consisted of a Drumset, accordian and some keys. All played by cousins and uncles! Kids were running around and adults were laughing their heads off! And dancing ,.....all night long. My Nona would dance with anyone that would let her lead! Oh those were the days!!!!!!!!! I can still remember them vividly in my memory. I just wish those types of parties stilled exsisted. How I miss those days. Anyway. In the photo's are my Nona ( the one with that BIG smile!) and Zia Maritsa, my Nona's Niece and my Zio Angelo (uncle) who was married to my Zia (aunt) Tilda...yep that is where I got my name. Anyhow, Zio Angelo was an AWESOME person but is no longer with us and I miss him dearly.....there he is looking like Dean Martin.....Memories

Next up is a LO of my DD, just loved how she looked this day....so delicate....she had a luau at school and one of the aides made this for her head....she wore it all day!

Work it Wednesdays Challenge at http://chattyscrappers.com to Use up a kit that you have put wwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy in the back of your closet, you have to use it ALL up....I have been able to get three layouts out of it so far and working on 4 and 5....it wasn't a good deal at all and I think that is what put me off to begin with.......But I have to say I am VERY please with the way they look, what do you think?????????????????

Okay I have done it!! I have dusted off my machine and started quilting again! What made me do it you ask? Well I got an invitation to Connecting Threads new FREE online quilting community and of course I had to poke my head in to see exactly what it was! So I did and they had a cute group to make table runners! The book we are using is: Let's Do Lunch by Atkinson . First I have to say this is One FABULOUS book if your looking for quick projects ....secondly I was in DESPARATE need of a new table runner...the lace doily looking thing had to go! So there it was, exactly what I was looking for......so needless to say I have joined this great group of people and I am having a ball! Its been 2 years since I have really sewn, got kinda burnt out for awhile so I stepped back and relaxed. Now I am at it again, so you'll start seeing a mixture of Cards, Layouts and quilts! So I leave you with this....my new quilttop....I will finish it and post it when it is complete....now off to wash the fabrics for my DD's Cowgirl quilt!

Life is back to normal, however I miss everyone being home with me. I love it when my babies are home, except of course when they are fighting! LOL!!! Doesn't it seem just as they get used to each other again and start being nice to each other they go back to school? Anyhoo! Just wanted to show off a couple of Birthday cards I made during break! Actually they were one of the challenges for the crop , to make 12 birthday cards to be ready for the year! So here you have it. I used Both CTMH Stampsets for most of them and Hero Arts, Inks and pens are CTMH. Enjoy

5. Definitely all the preparation of the wonderful food to share with my family and friends.

Boy did I ever have a case of Scrappers block! Ever have a time with no matter what you did it looked like a 2 year old did it? I couldn't cut, coordinate or color!!!! Growning up in New York, the one thing that I would love to have was Black & white cookies. Oh how delicious they were! I would LOVE the White part (vanilla) and my sister Rose would love the black part (chocolate).....well it brings back the fondest of memories for me.....a little bit ago I was strolling the isles of the $200 club, also known as Costco and stumbled upon this recipe book and opened the book righ to the page where there was a recipe for my beloved Black & White cookies....OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I MUST HAVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!! And so I bought it. And today I made them, and as I sat at my dining table with my two daughters and told them stories of yesturyear with the love affair I had with these cookies, I delighted in their faces as they expressed the same satisfaction of bite after bite!

Merry Christmas to all!!! I am happily sitting here knowing I have about a dozen or so more of these lovelies right in my kitchen! So for now I have a photo of them for you.............

Linda's (havhttp://dottbugs.blogspot.com/) challenge was to use Circles of any sorts and BLING!!! Glitter, shiney objects whateva!!! So of course I pulled out the GLITTA!!! and all the other shiney stuff! and this is what I came up with.....

This is my Mom's Christmas gift...........

Okay so a little history....My grandparents had an arranged marriage.. Both born in Italy, my Grandfather was in the Italian AirForce..an Officier....after they were married my mother was born....4 years later her brother....at the time her brother was born they were stationed in Africa and he got sick with strep throat....my Papa wasn't a high enough ranking officier to get the penicillian Uncle Antonio needed so at 22 months he passed away. They all went back to Italy and then to here to America...New York. The land of opportunity. My Papa passed in 1970 and my Nana in 1975.... My mother has never had any really photographs in frames of her side....it was the only photo of my Uncle ever....Nana and Papa took his death so hard this photo was never out. When I stumbled upon it I took it, the photo of my mother (the little girl) and my grandparents took it to Archivers to reproduce the photo's then made this layout which is going into a 3D frame. I think she'll love it....What do you think?
